Energy [R]evolution: a Sustainable Belarus Energy Outlook

The Heinrich Boell Foundation initiated an ambitious study on the possibility of a transition of Belarus to the energy system with a high share of renewable energy by 2050. Study was developed in collaboration with civil society organizations, scientists and independent experts in Belarus. Modelling work was carried out by the German Aerospace Center (DLR), Department of Systems Analysis and Technology Assessment at the Institute of Engineering Thermodynamics, while input data and results were reviewed by local experts.

Inspired by the Greenpeace’s Energy [R]evolution series developed for a range of countries, the study “Energy [R]evolution: a Sustainable Belarus Energy Outlook” was carried out in 2016-2018. This study presents results of modeling of the reference and alternative scenarios for the development of energy sector of Belarus and demonstrates how the transition towards a widely decarbonized energy system until 2050 can be achieved.
