Ukraine was always considered by West and East as a strategic partner in important social and politico-economic life. Thus in different years of independence a country was under influence of different foreign-policy forces. After the events of Orange Revolution in 2004 Ukraine tries to represent itself to its international partners as a homogeneous, independent and reliable partner. Thus for Ukraine it’s difficult to make a choice between international policy to east or westward. And unsteady, often even conflict situations between Russia and EU influence accordingly the unstable political line of Ukraine.

Key priorities of Ukrainian international policy is a question of European integration, which is now examined in the program of Eastern partnership, which carries in itself the row of requirements to the changes and improvements in Ukrainian internal- and foreign-policy sector with the purpose to approach its entry in EU.

Important directions of Ukrainian international policy are economic and political relations with Russia. Unstable relations between two countries often negatively influence the economy and international image of country.

The representatives of Heinrich Böll Foundation in Ukraine view their activity in adjusting of structural dialog between the representatives of polіcy and public sector of Ukraine and its strategic partners, such as Russia and countries of the EU. Nowadays the problem of the Eastern partnership and tasks, which appear before Ukraine within the framework of this program is very topical.
